Markedspladsen (The Market Square)
In 1913, an association was formed with then savings bankdirector Chr. Westergaard in the lead. This lead to a piece of land in the middle of Løkken. It was decided that sports should be able to be carried out and there could be gatherings such as e.g. markets, ring riding, circus and sports events.
Today it is a lovely recreational playground with a pavilion, benches, goals, pétanque and a fire pit. It is still an association that is behind the shape and condition of the market square, as a green oasis and playground in the middle of the city.

Anders Norre
Anders Norre was born in Brovst on 28 August 1899. He died in 1960 after having lived in Løkken for the last part of his life. He had a house at Harald Fischersvej and was clearly inspired in his works and colors by Northern Jutland. The dunes and sand as well as the bright colors of the harsh climate on the west coast.
Norre’s paintings were often pictured with fishing boats and fishing life, or subjects from agriculture with horses and landscapes and cities by the fjord or the coast. He made a great deal of black drawings or strong pastel colors in simple figurative motifs or images with vases in his pastel or oil paintings. He preferred putty technique painting. A master through colors and form, he often created paintings with the entire canvas filled. Anders Norre is considered to be the most skilled of the Løkken artist.
Art in the area around Markedspladsen
Markedspladsen is one of the recreational places in Løkken. It is on the way here you will find Sankt Peders sti; The old church path, which is now a cobbled footpath decorated with a large sculpture made in black granite, accompanied with carved fish by Klaus Unger. The sculpture of a mushroom and the first flatfish you meet is sponsored for the project. A brightly colored fresco/tile dedicated to Anders Norre’s path was made by Nina Friis Christiansen.
At the entrance of Markedspladsen, you will now meet new pavement and signs and one of the UN’s world goal murals by Lise Vestergaard. No. 8 with the title “A Child’s job is to play and have fun”, adorns the house gable. Lone Ejstrup Jensen has decorated the flagpole plinth with a seahorse and a school of fish. You will also find ceramics, fiber cement signs and stone. At Hotel Løkken Strand you will find a painting by Lise Vestergaard with the World Goal mural no. 6 and no. 15 with the title “No water, No green, No blue.”
